Look up before looking at the panels. Three in four homes here — 13,172 of the 17,403 housing units the census counts — went up in 2000 or later, 7,670 of them in the 2000s alone, a block 2,452 units clear of the decade behind it. It is easy to hear a build decade like that and assume everything in the garage is current. So a caved-in section asks which door this is and whether its maker still makes it, rather than what year the house went up — and where the serial has been painted over or lost, what is left to work from is the door in front of us.
