So the pattern gets read before the fault does. Brackets have a hole for every fixing they were built to take, the joints on a sectional door carry hinges at both ends, every section runs a roller in the track on either side, and a lift cable comes down each side of the door to a fixture at the bottom corner. Whatever pattern a door was put together to, it repeats across that door, so it can be checked position by position without knowing who made it or when.

That is worth the time because an absence behaves nothing like a breakage. Something broken gives itself away — a snapped coil, a frayed strand standing proud of a cable, a door that stops where it never used to. A hinge leaf running on half the screws its holes were drilled for gives away nothing, and neither does a track bracket a lag short or a bottom fixture down a bolt. The newest row is a blank of another kind. The census puts 40 units at 2020 or later and prints a margin of 47 on that estimate, so what the row hands over is a period it has not pinned down rather than a measurement of recent building.

That distinction is the one the count in the garage turns on. An empty hole in a bracket does not say when the bolt came out of it, or whether one was ever driven in, and no amount of looking will settle either. What it settles is that the position is empty today. That goes on paper before anybody starts deciding which part of your door is the problem, because nothing else on a visit puts a missing part onto the list.
