Identify what your door is doing before you call. If it is one of these, do not keep operating it.
Your torsion spring has snapped under intense torsional load. Forcing the opener to lift the door without spring assistance will burn out the motor or snap the drive belt.
A lift cable has slipped off the drum or a roller bearing has seized and popped out. Operating the door in this state can completely drop the heavy panels.
A stripped internal nylon drive gear or a blown starting capacitor. We carry complete carriage gear rebuild kits in our trucks to repair your system immediately.
Don't let a snapped spring, snapped cable, ripped weather seal, or a defective remote keep you locked inside. Our expert teams carry fully stocked dispatch trucks. We regularly perform comprehensive garage door maintenance (inspection, lubrication, adjustment, and component testing) to keep your system safe. We serve San Francisco and the cities around it.
Every bracket on a garage door is a hole in a wall, and the wall has a second side.
Nearly every bracket that makes a garage door work is a hole in a wall. The vertical track down each side of the opening is fastened through one; so is the anchor the counterbalance works against; so is the fixing at the front end of the opener's rail. Each goes into a surface that has two sides, and the second side is not in the garage.
The other side settles things nobody thinks to ask about. How deep a fastener can go is decided by what is on the other side, not by what would hold best: a lag long enough to be sure of its grip is sometimes a lag that comes out somewhere it should not, and then the bracket is set elsewhere or the load is spread over more of the wall rather than driven deeper into it. A building carries sound and grit through itself as well as through the air, so cutting and drilling in a garage arrives on the other side of that wall long before any of it reaches the driveway.
None of that is in a build record. What San Francisco's holds is dates, and they run heavily to one end of the table: 186,855 of the 411,542 housing units counted here carry a build date of 1939 or earlier, 151,177 more than the 1940s at 35,678, with 2,742 of published error across that comparison. That row is the only one in the table with no floor under it, so it sets a minimum rather than a span — at least 87 years standing. Dates are the whole of what it holds. Nothing in the count says which side of a garage wall is a room, which is a stair, and which is open air.
So it gets asked instead. When you book, tell us what is on the other side of the wall the track runs down, and what is behind the header over the opening. It is one sentence for you to answer and nothing we can work out from the driveway, and it decides where a bracket lands, how it is fixed and how loud the afternoon gets, before a single part is touched.
