Before anything gets loosened, the door gets run: up, all the way down, and up again, watched from inside the garage rather than from the driveway. It is not perfectly uniform either, and the exception is the one worth carrying. 2,327 units, 10.9% of the stock, were standing before 1980, and 293 of those date from 1939 or earlier — at least eighty-seven years since those houses were finished, against twenty-three at the median. Same city, same day's list of calls.

So the build year gets used for the one thing it can carry, which is an outer limit on how long anything in the garage has had to be up there. It does not name a part and it does not describe one. What is bolted to this opening is read off this opening, with the door moving.
